The academic achievements of about 140 Santa Maria Joint Union High School District students will be highlighted during “UC Success Night” on Friday, April 20th.

The students, who are from various SMJUHSD sites and their families, are gathering from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Community Center in Santa Maria. All have been admitted to the University of California System.

The program will feature speakers including elected officials such as Congressman Salud Carbajal who plan to stress the importance of a sound education. Students will also receive awards and proclamations.

“This is one of my favorite events because it showcases how four years of dedication and hard work can really payoff for those students and their families that have done the right things, worked hard, and poured their hearts into making education dreams come true,’’ said UCSB-Early Academic Outreach Program (EAOP) Director Britt Ortiz.

EAOP is a partnership between the SMJUHSD and UCSB to engage college readiness and provide guidance, according to LCFF Task Force Coordinator Steve Molina. SMJUHSD has three UCSB EAOP Specialists, Molina added.
