EAOP students eager to start their college applications participated in College Readiness Academies (CRA) before their senior year started this past summer. Held in EAOP partnership schools in Ventura, Santa Barbara and Kern County, CRAs provided first generation college students with the support and guidance that will continue throughout their senior year. Before starting a busy school year, these academies gave students the space and time to learn about the UC and CSU applications, private college applications, and financial aid. Students reviewed their academic performance with transcript evaluations provided by the Transcript Evaluation Service, which tracked students progress in meeting their A-G requirements which are needed for eligibility to the UC and CSU systems. “I not only got ahead on my applications, I also learned about scholarships, loans, grants, and deadlines and so much more” wrote a Santa Paula High School senior on her evaluation. "Attending CRA made me feel more confident when applying for colleges" explained a Carpinteria High School Student after finishing the academy. With AP and Honors classes and leadership responsibilities in extracurricular activities to balance, the college and financial aid process can be overwhelming for seniors. "The College Readiness Academy made me feel confident about the college application process. I actually know what I am doing and how to do it. This academy is one of the most impactful programs I've ever experienced this far!" said Noe Garcia from South High School in Kern County. Having an early start helped students feel more confident starting their senior year with a plan and a framework to organize their college applications, test registrations, college searches, and scholarship applications.
